Before the meeting Frank, Ryan and Sandy had the first meeting in a long time of the Initiating Group. The IG is a planning group which will meet twice a month. The group was more active when the IG regularly met in ’10 - ’11. We are hoping to achieve this affect again.
After Intros and a summary of the December meeting, reports from the following Working Groups were heard: The Garden Exchange WG, Channel Albany WG, and Outreach and Education.
The meeting consisted mostly of keeping one another informed about Transition related events that are coming up:
Sunday, Jan 20th - Lynn Dennis will represent TA in Saugerties for Transition training in how to run successful meetings. It looks like she’ll by joined with Pete Looker and Rennie from TS.
Monday, Jan 21st 10 - 2 at Hackett Middle School. - Sandy and Fred Elfenbein will table at the MLK day. This year the emphasis is on Labor and Environmental justice. The event is free and full of environmental workshops so come on down to networking heaven
Dennis, Jay, Lynn, Fred, and Sandy of the Channel Albany Working Group will be trained by them on their studio equipment on Monday, Jan 28th at 6:30 at the APL main branch. Let me know if you’d like to join us. firstname.lastname@example.org
Dave, Frank, Terrence and Sandy of the Garden Exchange Working Group and the IG will meet on Tues. Jan 29th, 7P, at the Hudson River Coffee House, corner of Hudson and Quail. Everyone is welcome. Sandy intends to finish reviewing other Transition websites and make recommendations for a new TA website by this date.
Sandy has begun to give short peak oil presentations at Rotary club meetings. Please let her (me) know if you belong to a civic group that would like a short or long presentation. TA now owns a projector so Have Show Will Travel.
Jorgan Randers, one of the authors of Limits to Growth, will be at UAlbany’s uptown campus on Feb 6th at 7:30. Contact Mary Ellen Mallia email@example.com for guidance with parking or me firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to car pool from Albany. The event is free.
Dan Gibson, Carole Nemore, Natalie Nussbaum, Lynn Dennis and myself showed up to speak to Alb. County in favor of their proposed styrofoam ban. This legislation should be voted out of committee and on the floor by the county’s next meeting on Feb 11th at 6:30. Please come, if you can. The bill won’t pass without us.
The Earth Day Bicycle Parade planning group meets on Tuesday, Feb. 12th, 7P at the Hudson River Coffee House, corner of Hudson and Quail. Everyone is welcome.
Our next TA meeting is Feb 19th, 7PM at FUUSA preceded by a meeting of the IG at 5:30.
