We had an Energy Star Home with a passive sunroom. In January 2012 we installed 6.24 kW (26 Canadian Solar CS6P-240M panels). We now capture the amazing power of the sun.
We have now purchased a 2013 Chevy Volt which is an extended range electric vehicle. It is driven approximately 42 miles Monday through Friday and does it completely on battery power. We charge it every night using the power produced with our solar panels thanks to net metering.
To date, we have driven the Volt over 3,000 miles and not put any gas into it! Whiteman Chevrolet, our dealer, will be demonstrating a new Volt at our house during the Solar Tour. If you'd like to test drive it you can.
With the solar panels we have eliminated our electric bill and drive the Volt without using any gasoline. We should see a return on both the Volt and the solar panels within seven years.
Hope to see you on Saturday, October 5th!
