We have a 5.52 kW Grid Tied Photovoltaic (ground mount) system consisting of 24 230W PV Modules mounted on three poles. Our system went live on 2/2/10 and since then our system has supplied all of our electrical needs and we have only had to pay the monthly connection fee to National Grid. Our first year production was 7595 kWh , our second year was 7424 kWh and so far this year 6225 kWh.
Notice how much electricity we are getting from our panels? Well, I maximize our gain by adjusting the tilt of the panels about 10 times a year. I figure we get about 20% more than fixed panels! An advantage of a ground mounted system.
We also installed a GE Hybrid Electric Water Heater (which runs on the power supplied by the solar panels), saving about 1 tank (250 gallons) of oil a year.
Finally we still have an oil fired hot water heating system, but almost all of our actual heating is now done with a wood stove located in our living room.
