November 14 to 18 is Sustainability Week at UAlbany. We have lots of events planned including an information session on carpooling/car sharing, a bike clinic, an electronics recycling collection, an energy demonstration and a young farmer's colloquium. We'll wrap up the week by revealing our final energy campaign numbers. Click on the links below to get details and fliers on the week's events.
Representatives from our alternative transportation offerings including CDTA, UAlbany Shuttle, Hertz on Demand and the Albany Bike Rescue will be in the Campus Center lobby between 10 am and 2 pm. At noon, we will host a brown bag lunch and learn on carpooling and carsharing in Assembly Hall. That evening, Albany Bike Rescue and UPD will put on a bike clinic that will prepare you for winter bike riding. This will start at 7 pm in the SEFCU lobby. This event is open to the public.
Tuesday, November 15, America Recycles Day
The Green Scene Team will be in the Campus Center asking recycling trivia questions and handing out prizes. Stop by the lobby between 10 am and 2 pm. Also that day, our annual electronics recycling collection will take place from 11 am to 2 pm in the State Quad Student Parking Lot. This event is open to the public. Wednesday, November 16, Energy Awareness Day
Learn about the forms of renewable energy the University uses in the Campus Center lobby between 10 am and 2 pm. That evening, come to Tuscarora third floor lounge on Indian Quad for a demonstration on the amount of energy average household appliances use and learn about energy conscious alternatives.
Come to the Campus Center lobby between 10 am and 2 pm to learn more about where our food comes from and sustainable agricultural practices. Get some fresh produce and baked goods from the Farmer's Market.
At 6:30 pm in the D'Ambra Auditorium (Life Sciences Building), there will be a screening of the movie "The Greenhorns" followed by a panel discussion from young people who have gotten into farming as their careers. This event is open to the public. Click here for the flier.
Join us at 3 pm in University Hall 306 as we reveal the final energy campaign numbers and hand out some special recognition for departments and individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to help advance sustainability efforts. Light refreshments provided.
Look for the Green Scene Team members at the last home football game collecting returnables during tailgating and encouraging good recycling behavior.
